Having survived the carnage that is the M1 widening scheme between J. 6-10 aboard starship ‘Snakenham Palace’ (or the Pikey Bus as my other half is disarmingly prone to refer to it) , Lips and I were ready to party on down on the friday. We were joined on site by Sir John Rambo on his ‘Hog Haven’ escape pod and like the 3 New Forest Hogstateers proceeded to boldly explore this new and uncharted rally frontier
Having had a sticky encounter with a winter weight quilt on arrival on site Thursday night I was somewhat ‘tired and emotional’ on the Friday night having thrown myself a little too energetically into the Friday night party spirit and had to endure much gay banter from HOG chums on the Saturday, about how they had never seen me quite so ‘tired’ or indeed ‘emotional' at a rally before and commented that on my way to bed I appeared to be trying to ‘negotiate a minefield’ I was of course merely practising my Hokey Cokey skills for the saturday night disco
Although admittedly I could recall very little of the preceding evening I knew that the guys were only joshing even when chapter director Martyn made jocular reference to my escapades over the PA during the Saturday night raffle prize draw
The weather was extremely blustery Friday night and several rally goers were almost forced to abandon ship when their tents threatened to capsize, but were ultimately able to stay and enjoy to poshest porta-crappers Lips and I have ever seen at a rally featuring a REAL wooden bog seat, scented handwash, flowers & piped classical music – a luxury dumpster (forgot to get a pic as a memento !)
The scenic rideout on Saturday was to the Bucks. Railway museum at Quainton some 25 miles away and provided some excellent photo opportunities en route marred only marginally by 2 stray jap tourists who appeared surreally out of nowhere 2 minutes before the ride rumbled through and proceeded to meander aimlessly up the hill
Following our first photo set along the beautiful rolling hills near Whipsnade, we somehow managed to get to the museum 10 minutes before the police escorted ride which fortuitously didn’t actually follow the planned route enabling us to catch a second set on their arrival….
This shot of Lippy predictably prompted the classic joke about one of these having 'mad cow disease' and the other CJD. We then shot off 10 minutes before depart back to a further vantage point on a one way bridge over a mill stream for the third set of the day
On our return to base comp Keith rather naively challenged Lippy to a drinking contest during the afternoon cocktail party hosted by ‘Lovely Rita’ - Cocktail Maid. After an indeterminate number of Pimms Lips proudly declared herself the winner and then went back to the palace for 40 winks

Meanwhile I caught up with the ride in bike show which this year was won in amazing style by the three youngest riders on site
Saturday night featured some spunky live music from a band wearing bizarrely un-rock & roll matching shirts … more beach boys than boys are back in town but good organisation all round guys and thanks for making the starship crew so welcome.. next stop on the UK 2007 tour Spires & Squires ... bring it on
