EVENT REPORT

After a 3 hour haul in the blazing heat up the A34 in the 'Snakemobile' we arrived at the stunning location for this years 'Squires & Spires'  rally - Towcester racecourse. From the minute we entered beneath the austere arch the organisation was impeccable . We were greeted by head road captain 'Jester' who had previously e-mailed me the exact route the rideout would take on Saturday so I could research the best vantage point to shoot from. Self styled 'Chapter Bitch' Nobby was delegated to escort us to our trade stand in the Paddock pavilion having climbed in through the drivers door first for a snog with Lippy.

Very much tailored as a 'family friendly' rally the camping area was suitably divided and well endowed with mature tress to provide some much needed shade in the searing heat

I'm not a gamblin' man but can imagine its a lot of fun watching the racing from the grandstand here with fab views across rolling fields and countryside

 Friday Night Party

Friday night we took advantage of Happy hour (bacardi breeezers a pound a pop) and partied hard  into the night to the 'Strangers' who had the more equipment than most stadium rock bands and was rounded off  with some body surfing antics

Mrs Air Guitar

This lady played 'air guitar' more convincingly than most rock gods play the real thing and for that reason alone deserved a gallery all of her own !

Millbrook

Thanks to Nobby one of the highlights of the weekend for many was the rideout to Millbrook proving ground where subject to signing a disclaimer they were allowed to do cruise several laps of the 2 mile speed test track

Security was tight and Max and I were escorted everywhere by security guards to ensure we didn't take any sneaky snaps of prototypes being put through their paces.
A group shot was orchestrated by chapter director Andy in front of the high tech reception building

Craig Jones

Another highlight was the impromptu display of jaw dropping riding by stunt ace Craig Jones in the car park behind the dealer marquee leading no doubt to speculation on Monday morning by racecourse personnel as to the source of the black crop circles

Tarts & Vicars

We were too busy cropping and editing the Millbrook rideout to enjoy the chapter games that ensued on our return ably compered by Rockin Rob Paston and likewise tied to the stand in evening and consequently didn't make the 'Tarts & Vicars' fancy dress party on the Saturday night but we were visited at the stand by a comely selection of wenches with beards that obviously appeared increasingly attractive to single male HOGsters as the booze fuelled night wore on . All in all a cracking weekend Grommit marred only by being caught up in the mayhem that resulted in the A31 spur road back to Bournemouth being closed by the police at 2.00 pm for 6 hours on the the Sunday - the hottest day of the year to date following a spectacular crash involving a Ducati hitting a Ford Mondeo so hard he catapulted over the central reservation and hit another car coming the other way and had to be airlifted to Poole hospital with severe but not life threatening injuries. The final 10 minutes home consequently took 2 hours. I was not a happy Snake
