SUNDAY RIDES

Finally for good measure we got up bright and early Sunday morning to catch the organised ride outs leaving the campsite + a few who were headed for home. We missed the first ride to Portland Bill because we were advised it was turning right out of the site but subsequently turned left to take the 'scenic route'  so if you were in that first group don't bother searching here. However If you were in either the 'Mystery Tour' ride or the 'Swanage' run then check out the possibilities below and contact us with your image number(s)

Jurassic coastlines AND the biggest names in showbiz
That was New Forest’s Spring Fever Rally…. “The Dream Ticket

OK so here’s the 64 million $ question  … where can you ride roads acknowledged in biker circles to be amongst the finest in the World AND then be entertained by Clapton, Blondie, Cher and ‘The King’ (yeah he’s back in the building) for a mere £65 – accommodation included ?.... New Forest’s ‘Spring Fever’ rally would be the answer you’re looking for young man !

Weather men are notorious for getting the forecast wrong but on this occasion their mistake was an exceedingly welcome one as the projected days of rain (which varied depending on who you chose to believe) turned into 3 days of almost non stop sunshine.

After travelling many long miles dozens of smiling bikers removed their shiny helmets donned the freebie baseball hat from their rally pack and simply sat in the sunshine on the decking patio (conveniently located right next to the main gate)  with an ice cold beer to soak up the atmosphere of friends old and new rumbling through the main gate with a throaty ‘Hi Ho Silver’.

Friday nights entertainment was kicked off in fine style by ‘Rockin’ Rob – New Forest’s own DJ followed by some superb R & B from ‘The Mustangs’, stylish country rock courtesy the Sarah Jory band and some head banging rock from Skint – nice mix boyz ‘n girlz .

Saturday morning 800 Harlies congregated for the Parade ride into Weymouth. One rally virgin next to me was stunned into virtual incoherence as bike after bike roared past him headed for the ‘security departure lounge’ (the gravel pit next door) and he just kept silently mouthing the word “awesome” - bless. On the dot of 11.30am engines revved for the off along a 7 mile countryside trek towards Weymouth and on up along the Victorian seafront lined with folk smiling, waving and clapping as we thundered into town en-masse. The public do love a ‘Harley’ show … and we surely gave them one on this occasion.

We arrived at Lodmore Country Park for lunchtime entertainment from The Crack with the sun cascading off the chrome of the outrageous bikes in the ride in show and a humongous American custom lorry with a paint job to rival many of the bikes surrounding it.

Saturday night revellers threw themselves into the proceedings with gusto. Rally favourites ‘Quill’ performed a classic set that dovetailed nicely into the firework display at 10.30pm. They were a tough act to follow but ‘Blondie’ tribute - ‘Into The Bleach’ ripped the joint apart with more costume changes in 1 hour than Victoria Beckham can manage in a whole day. Hot on Deb’s heels ‘Mafia’ delivered their usual brand of heads down-no nonsense rock and roll. Seasoned rally goers kept the party going till 2.00 a.m. when Rob was forced to pull the plug.

Sunday dawned several hours too early for those that had steadfastly refused to leave the bar with a choice of four ride outs to savour the most beautiful country side and Jurassic coastline Dorset has to offer. All the rides culminated at Lulworth castle where those with a head for heights scaled the ramparts to gaze down on the hundreds of Harleys on the grass below whilst Jim Etherington and his band got everyone in the mood for a stunning impromptu group photo in front of the castle.

The Boys and Girls from Essex Chapter astounded everyone as the unscheduled opening act for Sunday night’s legendary fancy dress party - The ‘Flea Degrees’ wowed the punters. The choreography was a bit dodgy but then size 10 stilettos do pinch the feet a little ! Additional Oooh’s and Aaah’s were provided by the ‘Mafia’ posse dressed as pirates and if you missed the spectacle Jools from Videotrax ensured the entire ‘X factor’ (or is that x rated ?) performance was captured for posterity

As always the effort put into the various costumes was a joy to behold and you couldn’t help wondering how some peeps manage to transport such outlandish garbs in the saddle bags of a Harley. My personal favourite this year was Pete’s Jolly Green Giant - for which he’s now receiving urgent medical treatment but I digress….

‘Claptonite’ performed a slick selection of  ‘Slowhand’ favorites followed by ‘Elvis’ who upped the anti with classic after ‘King’ classic. With more entertainment than you could shake a stick at ‘Cher’ finally blinded the masses into submission with a truckload of ‘bling’ before Rob once again closed this dazzling show of ‘celebs’ worthy of Closer or OK mag.

All in all it was a fantastic rally from start to finish so thanks to Les, the Committee and all the guys and gals who beaver tirelessly behind the scenes to make it happen. You can relive all the memories on DVD by visiting www.videotrax.net  and likewise check out hundreds of stills from the weekend in the galleries above !

Snake and I recently checked out the superb facilities at the fully refurbished Sandford caravan park - the location for New Forest’s 1st ever ‘Autumn Blitz’ Rally in September and we can assure you the that, true to its name, the event looks set to end the rally season with a BANG that will register on the Richter scale .. so check out the menu and download a booking form today
