THUNDER IN THE BARN

The evening started well with Snake and I last to arrive. Having forgotten to bring the newsletter we merrily motored several miles past the Old Barn Farm pub in search of ‘The Flycatcher’ - the destination of Sunday’s rideout to Stockbridge.

A belated U-ey  and we elbow our way into a packed skittle alley (via the bar naturellement) just in time to throw  our 50p’s in the beer mug and toss our balls in the first of two knockout tournaments. Two strikes and yer out – fair enough even this blonde can understand those kinda rules.

Fagin and Arkwright  not only did a sterling job of setting ‘em up and returning spent ammunition all night but also ably demonstrated just how much fun you can have with a skittle. Fortunately there were no serious ankle injuries sustained by the unsuspecting targets of friendly fire ‘bouncers’ that managed to leapfrog over the rail guarding the edge of the alley.

Despite Pauline proving that she’s as hot at skittles as she is at picking winners at the greyhounds the skittles champ finally came down to a sudden death play off between the winners of the two eliminating rounds  Steve Cragie and Bob Tanner. The latters’ unorthodox style of crouching prior to hurling himself forward and spreadeagling himself on the lane as he launched his deadly salvo of  projectiles was awesome to behold and ultimately secured him the winners medallion. I know I wasn’t alone in wondering whether he might forget to let go of the ball and go hurtling head first into the wooden pins with a ‘Coyote-esque’ look of bewilderment on his face as he rocketed past down the lane to the amazement and consternation of the Hogster 'Roadrunners' lining his route all going ‘meep meep’

With a capacity of 50 the event was well over subscribed with those who turned up on spec unfortunately unable to participate … so next time round peeps remember  – book early ! . All agreed it was a fantastic fun night and we’d all come again so hats off to Bob & Sue Long for organising the event.
